Rain floods Kandy town for five hours. Railway station and town resemble a raging lake (VIDEO).

Almost half of the city of Kandy is now under water. The Kandy railway station has been flooded and its operations have come to a complete standstill.

Due to the heavy rain that hit Kandy since the early hours of today (25), the railway station area, which is considered to be the lower part of Kandy, was flooded.

The Kandy railway station has been covered by water that has continuously flowed for more than five hours.

From the entrance of the railway station, the pavements, railway tracks were filled with water and appeared as one reservoir. The railway station has been heavily damaged by rainwater.

The Sidhuhumpola section of William Gopallawa Mawatha has also been completely flooded due to overflowing of the middle canal leading from Kandy city towards William Gopallawa Mawatha. The Suduhumpola section is above the railway line.

Commenting on this, the Kandy main station master RMP Rathnayake said that the station was completely submerged in water in a short time due to the water that flowed from Bogambara.

He said that this could be due to the non-completion of road construction and building construction in the Bogambara stadium area, which has blocked the drains and almost all the constructions started under the rapid development measures have been stopped, causing disruption to the water flow.
