Public Security Minister Tiran Alas said this while responding to News First’s inquiry about the next steps to be taken after the completion of the three-week extension of service given to Inspector General of Police CD Wickramaratne.
Meanwhile, Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena said that no name has been sent to the Constitutional Council regarding the appointment of a new Inspector General of Police.
The Constitutional Council is scheduled to meet on the 9th
The current Inspector General of Police CD Wickramaratka was given three service extensions.
That is two occasions of 3 months each and as a service extension of three weeks.
Recently, the President had requested the Constituent Assembly to extend his tenure by another 3 weeks.
The Constituent Assembly declared that the Inspector General of Police does not need the permission of his assembly to extend his service. – News First
