Professor Kapila Perera to Resign as Transport Ministry Secretary; Central Expressway Work to Begin

The Secretary to the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development, Professor Kapila Perera, is reported to have decided to resign from his position.

It is further reported that Mr. Kapila Perera has informed President Anura Kumara Dissanayake of his decision and has also officially notified the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government regarding his resignation from the post of Secretary.

According to reports, Professor Kapila Perera entered the public service from the university sector and has decided to step down as his term in the public service has come to an end.

After his resignation from the post of Secretary, Professor Kapila Perera is preparing to rejoin the university service.

He has also previously served as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Moratuwa.

Meanwhile, the construction work of the Rambukkana to Galagedara section of the third phase of the Central Expressway is scheduled to commence today (29) under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

Director General of the Road Development Authority, Anuradha Hettiarachchi, stated that a 18.7-kilometer stretch has been planned for development under this phase.

Construction of the Pothuhera to Rambukkana section under the first phase of the project is currently underway and is expected to be completed by the middle of next year.

The first phase of the project is estimated to cost Rs. 78 billion, while the second phase is estimated at Rs. 112.4 billion.

All required funds for this project have been allocated through domestic sources, and the construction work will be carried out by local contracting companies.
