Prof. G.L. Peiris Criticizes Lack of Consultation on Electricity Board Act, Highlights Supreme Court’s Limited Role in Reviewing Acts | Sri Lanka Latest News

Speaking at a press conference in Colombo today (29), Prof. G.L. Peiris expressed concerns over the government’s handling of the Electricity Board Act, noting that no input was sought from opposition MPs, Electricity Board officials, or trade unions before its introduction.

Peiris emphasized the Supreme Court’s limited intervention scope in act-related issues, focusing solely on constitutional conflicts and technicalities.

Highlighting the lack of transparency in government bills, Peiris criticized the parliament’s integrity, accusing it of facilitating the privatization of profitable institutions, contrary to Pohottu’s policies.

He pledged to oppose the government’s profit-making institution sales through democratic means as part of the common opposition.”
