Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya has expressed her disapproval of the statement made by Deputy Minister Nalin Hewage regarding Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Rohini Kaviratne.

Commenting on the incident, the Prime Minister stated that it would have been preferable if the events of yesterday had not occurred.

She further elaborated:

“It was inappropriate. I was not present at the time, but Minister Nalinda Jayatissa immediately rejected the statement and took steps to correct it.”

“Even if our government makes mistakes, we take responsibility and work to correct them. We do not condone such actions. While unfortunate incidents may occur, we do not justify wrongdoing simply because it involves one of our own. It would have been better if yesterday’s incident had not taken place.”

The controversy arose when Deputy Minister Nalin Hewage, speaking in Parliament yesterday, claimed that a newspaper advertisement had been published targeting Matale District MP Rohini Kaviratne, with her name altered in the publication.
