President’s Secretary Clarifies No Constitutional Requirement for Seniority-Based Appointment of Attorney General; Urges Bar Association to Consider All Qualified Candidates – Sri Lanka Latest News

President’s Secretary Mr. Saman Ekanayake has pointed out that there is no constitutional requirement to appoint the most senior officer in the Attorney General’s Department for the position of Attorney General based on seniority, and that has never happened before. Sri Lanka Latest News

This letter further states that the Bar Association of Sri Lanka should not represent only one person when there are other qualified candidates for the post of Attorney General.
