A meeting between President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and representatives of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) was held this afternoon (19) at the Presidential Secretariat, following a request made by the TNA. Sri Lanka Latest News
Discussions focused on the Provincial Council elections and the need for a new constitution. President Anura Kumara Dissanayake stated that the government believes traditional political solutions are no longer adequate to address the issues faced by the people in the North and East, emphasizing the need to seek a new political approach. He further noted that he expects support from all parties in this regard.
A wide range of matters including fisheries and land issues, infrastructure facilities, and development needs affecting the people of the North and East for a long time were also extensively discussed. The President instructed relevant officials to provide solutions to several concerns raised by the Members of Parliament in the future.
TNA MPs reiterated that their party would extend its full support to any government initiative aimed at developing the North.
Former Member of Parliament and Attorney-at-Law M.A. Sumandhiran added that the TNA, as a political party representing the Tamil community, is ready to support any decision taken by the government against racism.
Representing the TNA were C.V.K. Sivagnanam, MPs S. Rasamanikkam, P. Sathyalingam, G. Sri Nation, S. Sri Dharan, T. Raviharan, K. Kodieswaran, and K.S. Kugadasan, along with former MP and Attorney-at-Law M.A. Sumandhiran. Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake and Senior Additional Secretary to the President Roshan Gamage were also present at this meeting.
