A high-level meeting was held today (9th) at the President’s Office between President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and senior officials from the Sri Lanka Customs Department and the Inland Revenue Department. The discussion centered on strategic measures to enhance revenue generation and improve the operational efficiency of both departments, in line with the government’s broader economic and regulatory reforms.
During the meeting, officials outlined the challenges faced in managing revenue and collecting taxes. They stressed the need for stronger coordination between the Inland Revenue Department and the Customs Department to effectively address these issues. The discussion also highlighted the importance of preventing tax evasion and boosting revenue through better enforcement of tax laws with improved inter-agency collaboration.
Key representatives from the Sri Lanka Customs Department, including Director General PBSC Nonis, along with Additional Director Generals H.W. SP Karunaratne, C.S.A. Chandrasekara, W.S.I. Silva, S.P. Arukgoda, and J.M.M.G. Wijeratne Bandara, attended the meeting. Senior Deputy Director A.W.L.C. Weerakoon and Chief Financial Officer M.R.G.A.B. Mutukuda were also present.
The Inland Revenue Department was represented by Commissioner General W.S. Chandrasekara, alongside Deputy Commissioner Generals B.K.S. Shantha, J.A.D.DBK Siriwardena, J.D. Ranasinghe, D.M.N.S.B. Dissanayake, and H.H.S. Samantha Kumara, as well as Senior Commissioner T.M.S. Thennakon.
