President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has instructed officials to prioritize providing relief services to affected individuals, emphasizing that these services should not solely rely on technical information. The President stressed the importance of establishing a robust, ground-level mechanism to ensure effective relief delivery.
These directives were issued during a meeting held at the Presidential Secretariat today (27).
President Dissanayake also called for the immediate provision of food and sanitary facilities to safeguard those housed in temporary safe centers. He further directed authorities to allocate the necessary funds to support relief operations for affected communities.
The discussions highlighted the need to focus attention on the Northern and Eastern provinces, areas that have been significantly impacted.
Additionally, the President urged education officials to address the psychological needs and challenges faced by students preparing for the A/L examinations in affected regions.
Attention was also drawn to the plight of fishermen currently at sea, with the President instructing officials to gather detailed information on their circumstances and ensure their safety.
Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, Minister of Defense and Parliamentary Affairs Ananda Wijelaratne, Defense Secretary Vijindika Seneviratne, Air Force Commander Air Marshal Jayani Karunanayake, and Director General of the Department of Meteorology, along with other senior officials, participated in the discussions.
