Police have informed the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) to take necessary action against the Hiru Media Network over the continued broadcasting of unverified and false news, according to police sources.
Responding to an inquiry, Police Media Spokesperson Assistant Superintendent of Police F. U. Wutler stated that the TRC had been officially notified of the facts revealed during the investigations carried out in this regard.
He further explained that the letter sent to the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission — the authority responsible for issuing electronic broadcasting licences — requested appropriate action based on the findings of the investigation.
When another media outlet sought clarification on the matter, ASP Wutler confirmed that the relevant steps are currently being taken.
