The police have called on the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to be informed of any information regarding former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon, who is currently wanted under an arrest warrant.
Police Media Spokesperson, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Buddhika Manatunga, made this announcement during a media briefing held today (06).
According to SSP Manatunga, multiple police teams are actively engaged in efforts to apprehend the former IGP, who is reportedly evading arrest and failing to comply with legal proceedings.
He further stated that Tennakoon’s arrest is being pursued using standard procedures applied to suspects who go into hiding to evade court orders. He emphasized that no special treatment will be given in the process.
Additionally, the police spokesperson warned that any individuals found assisting Tennakoon in avoiding capture would face legal action under the Penal Code.
SSP Manatunga also assured that authorities are making intensified efforts to locate and detain the former IGP. However, he confirmed that, as of now, there is no information indicating that Tennakoon has left the country.
