Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala stated that if a police OIC fails to take action despite receiving information about drug distribution within his jurisdiction, any other police division has the authority to carry out the relevant raid.
Minister Wijepala made this statement yesterday (06) while attending a program to establish the Kurunegala District Council of the National Council for the Eradication of Drugs.
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Public Security Sunil Watagala, speaking at a recent Maharagama Regional Coordination Committee meeting, stated that a police OIC does not have the authority to conduct raids outside his designated jurisdiction.
The Deputy Minister raised this matter by directing a question to the OIC of the Kottawa Police.
