Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya announced in Parliament today (04) that a special task force has been established to prevent acts of vandalism within universities across the country.

Responding to an oral question raised by Kalutara District Councilor Dhanushka Ranganath, the Prime Minister stated that the task force has been formed with the involvement of the police, student representatives, and other key sectors.

She further explained that the Center for Gender Equality and Equity has submitted a series of proposals in support of this initiative. As part of the measures being implemented, a dedicated telephone hotline has already been introduced at universities to report incidents related to vandalism. Plans are underway to make this hotline operational 24 hours a day.

In addition, anti-bullying task forces have now been established in all universities. A structured mechanism has been put in place to ensure that these task forces can promptly report any incidents of bullying to the relevant authorities.

The Prime Minister also revealed that an expert committee has been appointed during a meeting held at the University Grants Commission to oversee and guide this initiative.

The program aims not only to address issues of vandalism and bullying but also to provide necessary health services, medical advice, mental health support, and rehabilitation programs for individuals accused in such incidents.
