Washington, DC – A tragic mid-air collision between a passenger plane and a military Blackhawk helicopter has occurred over the U.S. capital.

According to reports, both aircraft crashed into the nearby Potomac River following the impact.

The passenger plane, which had arrived from Kansas, was carrying 64 crew members and passengers, as confirmed by U.S. authorities. Additionally, the downed Blackhawk helicopter had three officers on board.

Foreign media sources indicate that the crash took place as an American Airlines passenger jet was attempting to land at Reagan National Airport.

Rescue operations are currently underway to assist the victims.
