The Ministry of Health reports that approximately 103 new cancer patients are being diagnosed in Sri Lanka each day, highlighting a deeply concerning public health issue.
Describing the situation as extremely unfortunate, the Ministry emphasized that public attention must urgently be directed towards the growing number of cancer patients across the country.
According to Dr. Suraj Perera, Community Medicine Specialist at the National Cancer Control Program, the most commonly detected cases are those of oral cancer.
This alarming trend calls for increased awareness, prevention efforts, and early detection measures among the population, authorities stressed.
