The Ministry of Education has instructed schools to refrain from assigning students for outdoor activities and sports during high temperatures for the next three days, with effect from today.

The Ministry instructed all schools to refrain assigning students for outdoor sports practices, organizing sports meets or other extra-curricular activities during high-temperature hours.

The Department of Meteorology said temperatures in several parts of the island had reached ‘Caution’ levels even today.

Deputy Director of the Forecasting Unit of the Met. Department Meril Mendis pointed out that the temperature felt on the human body remains on ‘Caution’ level at some places in North-western, Western and Southern provinces and Ratnapura District.

Foreign tourists in the country were also seen being impacted by the extreme heat.
