Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Dayasiri Jayasekara announced that the opposition has decided not to accept responses given by deputy ministers starting from the next parliamentary week.
Explaining the reason for this decision, Jayasekara stated that when a no-confidence motion was brought against the Deputy Minister of State Security, the Speaker ruled to reject the motion, citing that a deputy minister is not accountable to the legislature.
Jayasekara emphasized that, based on the Speaker’s decision, no deputy minister can be held responsible, raising concerns about their role and accountability in Parliament.
He further warned that this situation could lead to serious issues in the future, as answers provided by deputy ministers will no longer be accepted. Consequently, the relevant cabinet ministers will be required to appear in Parliament to respond to questions, he said.
