Over the past few days, two statements circulating on social media platforms and websites, claiming to be press releases from the Office of the Leader of the Opposition, have come to public attention. These publications use a letterhead resembling the official letterhead of the Opposition Leader’s Office and bear a signature claimed to be that of the Opposition Leader.
However, the Opposition Leader’s Office clarified that these announcements were not issued by the Office of the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, the Opposition Leader’s Office located at No. 30, Sir Marcus Fernando Mawatha, or by any officer serving in these offices.
Accordingly, the Opposition Leader’s Office today (23) lodged a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), requesting an investigation into the circulation of these publications. The complaint seeks to determine whether these materials were produced in an organized manner or otherwise, using the official letterhead of a government institution or the signature of the Opposition Leader without proper authorization.
