The Sri Lanka Junior Athletics team was unable to travel to the World Athletics Junior Championship in Cali, Colombia as planned due to officials’ failure to provide them with flight tickets on time.
The tournament was set to feature seven athletes.
The Sri Lanka junior team and their parents protested overnight at Torrington, demanding justice for them. They sought resolutions as well as the resignations of top athletics officials. “The team was denied proper air tickets to travel to Cali for the World Junior Championship,” Anjana Kaluarachichi, a sports journalist, tweeted.
