It has been proposed to establish a Faculty of Medicine under the National Institute of Business Management (NSBM) Limited and thereby offer MBBS degree. Sri Lanka Latest News

The medical degree is to be awarded under the direct supervision and regulation of the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health and the Sri Lanka Medical Council.

A large number of local and foreign students are expected to be recruited annually for that degree course.

NSBM has sought approval to designate Homagama Base Hospital as a suitable government hospital to provide clinical training for those medical students.

As the Cabinet approval has already been given to use the Homagama Base Hospital for the clinical training of the medical students of Sri Jayewardenepura University, Homagama Base Hospital is allocated based on resource sharing for the clinical training of the medical faculty students of the NSBM Institute as well as the professor unit facilities so that this will not be affected. It has been proposed to develop a mechanism of giving.

NSBM has agreed to provide necessary funds for the development of Homagama Base Hospital in accordance with the standards of medical education published by the Sri Lanka Medical Council.

Accordingly, the Council of Ministers has approved the proposal presented by President Ranil Vkramasinghe to take over Homagama Basic Hospital under the purview of the Ministry of Health and upgrade it to a teaching hospital.

NSBM Institute is a fully self-financed institution owned by Govt
