A female councillor of the Peliyagoda Municipal Council representing the National People’s Power (NPP) has resigned from her post following an incident in which her husband and son were accused of involvement in narcotics. Sri Lanka Latest News

The councillor who has tendered her resignation is identified as Disna Niranjala Kumari.

Legal proceedings are currently underway regarding her husband and son.

It is reported that she has been personally deeply distressed by this incident, especially at a time when the National People’s Power government is fully committed to eradicating the drug menace in the country.

Accordingly, she has stepped down from her position, considering it as support for the legal process related to the incident, as well as contributing towards the establishment of a healthy political culture in the country.

Her resignation letter has already been submitted to the Gampaha District Returning Officer.

A copy of the resignation letter has also been forwarded to the General Secretary of the National People’s Power.
