The National Institute of Mental Health reported receiving approximately 78,000 phone calls in 2024 from individuals seeking solutions to various mental health issues. Among the concerns raised were domestic violence, cybercrime, sexual harassment, drug-related problems, medication-related challenges, gender-related issues, and education-related difficulties.

Specialist psychiatrist Dr. Pushpa Ranasinghe of the National Institute of Mental Health revealed that they were able to provide solutions to the problems of nearly 26,000 individuals.

Notably, a significant number of calls came from people experiencing mental health challenges caused by pressures related to the Internet. Many of these callers reached out to the institute’s 1926 hotline seeking help. In response, the National Institute of Mental Health collaborated with Hithawathiya.com to address these concerns effectively. Dr. Ranasinghe highlighted that individuals over the age of 20 are particularly vulnerable to such issues.
