The executive committee meeting of that party was held this afternoon at the official residence of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Wijerama Mawatha in Colombo.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, State Minister DV Chanaka said that this decision was taken there.
Earlier, former Minister Basil Rajapaksa held the post of National Organizer of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna.
