30,000 School-Age Children Stranded on Streets in Sri Lanka, Police Aware but Solutions Elusive

Mr. Wasantha Athukorala, Professor of the Department of Statistics and Data Studies at the University of Peradeniya, says that about 30,000 children have fallen into the street. Sri Lanka Latest News

The parents or guardians have employed these children for prostitution or other money-making activities.

The study has also revealed that the majority of these children between the ages of 4 and 15 do not go to school.

Maubima newspaper, which is in the market today, has asked the Inspector General of Police about this, and the Inspector General of Police has also said that the police are aware of this situation.

The Inspector General of Police has said that the lack of suitable places to keep the children of Sigaman Yadina is a problem.

The Inspector General of Police further told the newspaper that the Ridhigama camp, where the beggars are kept, is now overcrowded.
