Pudukudiirippu Police Investigate Unusual Presence of Kerosene in Mullaitivu Well; Possible Contamination Raises Concerns

Following reports of kerosene contamination in a well at Kuruvi village, Mulathivu Wodiyarkattu, a team from Pudukudiirippu Police initiated investigations on the 7th. The landowner, who had recently cleaned the well after heavy rains, discovered kerosene instead of water.

The landowner, alarmed by the well’s water igniting easily, reported the incident to the Pudukudiirippu police through the village officer. Although preliminary investigations have been undertaken, authorities have yet to determine the exact method of kerosene infiltration into the well.

Police suspect that the kerosene may have entered the well due to damage to a nearby petrol station’s kerosene tank. The Pudukudiirippu Police have notified the Regional Manager of the Petroleum Corporation, launching a formal inquiry. As a precautionary measure, the extraction of water or petroleum from the well has been temporarily prohibited due to safety concerns.
