MP Namal Rajapaksa has responded to the complaint filed with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) regarding the validity of his law degree, asserting that no candidate, including himself, received any special treatment during the process.
In a statement, Rajapaksa described the allegations as “baseless” and politically motivated.
“Like many other allegations leveled against me over the years for political gain, this claim is completely unfounded. Such accusations not only tarnish my reputation but also undermine the credibility of the Sri Lanka Law College, an institution renowned for its fairness and integrity,” he said.
Rajapaksa expressed confidence that the investigation’s outcome would clarify any misconceptions. “I am confident that this inquiry will prove that no special treatment was granted to me during my law examinations. I will extend my full cooperation to the investigation and firmly believe that the truth will prevail.”
He further accused certain factions of using such allegations to divert public attention from the shortcomings of the current government. Rajapaksa also pointed to the controversy surrounding MPs with fake educational qualifications, which, he noted, led to the resignation of the Speaker.
“This situation, along with the appointment of a Speaker with false qualifications, warrants more serious scrutiny. It highlights the need to focus on issues that have truly shaken the government,” he added.
