MP Dayasiri Jayasekara today made a significant statement concerning the release of several containers from Sri Lanka Customs.
Speaking at a press conference, he emphasized that it is unjust to place blame on state officials regarding the incident.
The controversy arose in January when congestion at the Colombo Port led to accusations from various parties that 323 imported containers had been released without proper customs inspection as a measure to ease the situation.
Following these allegations, and under the directive of the President, the Ministry of Finance appointed a special committee to investigate the matter and provide a detailed report.
That investigative report was tabled in Parliament last Monday by Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Mujibur Rahuman.
Meanwhile, in a related development, the Joint Opposition Youth Alliance has lodged a formal complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), calling for an inquiry into a statement made by Deputy Minister Ruwan Kodithuwakku concerning the same containers.
