21-year-old Chamodi Sandeepani, who was suffering from indigestion, was recently admitted to Kotaligoda Regional Hospital and later transferred to Peradeniya General Hospital for further treatment.
Chamodi’s mother said that after an injection given to her during the treatment, her condition worsened and her body turned blue.
“My child had a stomach ache and was brought to the hospital. At first it was to Kotaligoda. Then she was brought to Peradeniya on the 10th. After that she was transferred from ICU to Ward 17 above floor. Around 3.30 my daughter was cannulated and given saline. After that two medicines were administered. As soon as the two medicines were injected, something happened to my child’s eyes and my ‘gem’ told me that something was going to happen. After that, my daughter went to the bathroom. My child kept her head in the sink. Everything turned blue, limbs turned blue, my child collapsed. When nurses came and brought my child to the ward while I was screaming, I asked what has happened to my child? I don’t have my girl today. I have only one girl. My child had no other illness.”
Peradeni Hospital is going to conduct an investigation in this regard.
