Today (12) the relevant authorities, including the Sri Lanka Road Development Authority, had taken steps to implement a necessary safety program at the place and the nearby area to reduce the accidents that regularly occur near the Polonnaruwa Manampitiya Kotaliya Bridge. (Sri Lanka Latest News)

According to the road signs, danger signs and control signs that were damaged at this place, measures have been taken to reduce the excessive speed of drivers by using small tar lumps on both sides of the Manampitiya Kotaliya narrow bridge. P. L. Chandratilaka said.

11 people died and 41 people were injured in the accident that happened on the night of last 09th when a private bus traveling from Kaduruwela to Kalmunai overturned from the Kotaliya bridge.

Yesterday, a group of young community activists of the area, including Attanakadawala Janathalankara, the registrar of the Dimbulagala North Security Force, engaged in a protest to provide permanent solutions to the unsafe Manampitiya Kotaleya bridge without plastering, and to widen this narrow bridge very quickly and ensure the safety of the passengers traveling on this road.
