The power outage was restored by yesterday afternoon.
The official said that the hospital’s telephone network and air conditioning system were also disabled due to the power failure, and the doctors performed surgeries with the help of flashlights.
According to the report, patients in some intensive care wards were in serious danger in operating room A, operating room B, operating room D, ward number 65.
The official said that with this power failure, the blood stored in the blood bank and certain types of medicines are in serious danger and the machines of the intensive care units had to be operated from their batteries.
The officer further said that an investigation will be conducted into this massive power failure that occurred while nine administrative officers were working in the dance department of the National Hospital.
Meanwhile, last week the electricity was cut off at the Badulla Hospital and after Mr. Sajith Premadasa, the leader of the opposition, revealed the matter in the Parliament, the authorities took steps to restore the electricity to the hospital.
