Although the Minister of State for Finance and Minister of State for Plantation Industry Mr. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya had given official notice to the presidents and board members of all government-owned plantation companies, including the Alkaduwa Plantation Company, the heads of the Alkaduwa Plantation Company have not heeded those orders and are still performing their duties in those positions. In the recently held COPE committee meetings, there were many accusations that the senior leaders of Alkaduwa Estate Company had committed fraud-corruption and irregularities, and finally, the COPE committee issued many recommendations that should be implemented immediately.
But it has been learned that the heads of Alkaduwa Plantation Company have avoided the implementation of those recommendations so far.
According to reports, this group met former Finance Minister Mr Basil Rajapaksa and informed them about this and took steps to protect their positions.
It is also known that Basil Rajapaksa is continuing to work in those institutions.
In addition, it has been learned that after the relevant meeting, the heads of the Alkaduwa Plantation Company have started chasing various people in the company, suspecting that they had given information to the Coop Committee.
It is also reported that the employees of Alkadu plantation company have decided to complain to the COP committee and the minister in the future.
