Minister of Women and Child Affairs, Saroja Paulraj, revealed today (18) during a media briefing that there has been a noticeable increase in pregnancies among school-aged girls.

She further noted a concerning rise in the number of young mothers who are still of school-going age. In response to this alarming trend, the Minister emphasized the urgent need to provide adolescent girls and schoolchildren with a more comprehensive and clearer understanding of sexuality.

This initiative, she stated, would be undertaken in collaboration with the Ministry of Education to ensure that appropriate and effective educational measures are introduced.

Minister Paulraj also stressed the importance of adopting scientific methods to prevent unintended pregnancies. She asserted that no child born under these circumstances should be left abandoned or orphaned, nor should the young mothers be marginalized or treated as victims within society.
