Minister Bimal Rathnayake recently revealed that there will be changes in government positions and responsibilities within the upcoming time frame. He made this statement during an interview with media personality Sisira Yapahu on Independent Television. Below is the dialogue from the discussion:

Several chairpersons of institutions under the ministry have resigned. Why is that?
Minister’s Response
Like all our chairpersons, 99% of them were appointed by three ministers from the previous government. At that time, we had to ensure the country was governed without instability. We formed a small team of about 21 people and appointed various individuals as chairpersons and leaders. Some of them were appointed for a short period of time, and they are aware of this. Some resigned voluntarily, while others left their positions to contest elections.
Understanding state governance requires knowledge, discipline, and management skills. It also requires situational awareness and a variety of other qualities. Some people had good connections but lacked the necessary skills. Some individuals were simply not suitable. When I took over the ministry, I made it clear that I would stay for only six months. If I felt incapable, I would submit my resignation letter. I am not here to hold onto this position indefinitely. We have about 2000 issues to resolve in the next few years. For the first time, a government formed by the lower class of people has emerged. Whether it was the British or the previous monarchs, the poor were never considered. Therefore, we have about 2000 issues to solve. Everyone has a responsibility. We will do our best, and if we cannot, we will humbly step aside. It is only when we start running this machine that we will understand if we can handle these tasks or not. Therefore, the first six months have been about getting accustomed, gaining experience. We do not trust the officials completely. We have heard a lot of their excuses. We can tell if what they say can be done or not. We also realize that even if they say one thing, their true intentions might be different. Some are lazy, and others are political manipulators. These past six months have been about understanding both sides. Without that understanding, there is no other way to figure them out.
Now, we have completed the voting process. The next phase is a four-year drive. To achieve this, we need good components and a reliable engine.
Therefore, in the coming months, I expect to see changes in responsibilities, including possibly appointing new people. We will have open and friendly discussions about this. There are many people who are willing to volunteer and work with us. We must be accountable to the public. We must make promises to the people. However, when falsehoods are spread, and attempts are made to deceive us, our patience may wear thin.
