Matara Bar Association, condemn the summoning Supreme Court judges before the Parliamentary Privileges Committee as a serious threat to the independence of the judiciary.

The Matara Bar Association points out that a serious threat to the independence of the judiciary has arisen by summoning the Supreme Court judges before the Privileges Committee of the Parliament, accusing them of violating the privileges of the members of Parliament based on the interim orders given by the Supreme Court in connection with the holding of the local government elections.

Earlier, the Galle Bar Association had also taken steps to condemn this move by issuing a joint statement.
