Marine Nights: Colombo’s 7.4km Coastal Strip Set for Night-Time Tourism Boost with Cabinet Approval

A structured initiative has been identified as essential to revitalize the local economy, strengthen the tourism industry, and enhance the overall visitor experience in Colombo through increased night-time tourism activities.

In line with this objective, a project has been planned to develop the Colombo Marine Road—stretching approximately 7.4 kilometers from the Kollupitiya Railway Station to Dehiwala—under the theme “Marine Nights: Awakening Colombo.”

Special emphasis will be placed on a 400-meter stretch, spanning from the corner of Galle Face to St. Thomas’ Primary School, to create a vibrant and engaging night-time environment.

The Cabinet of Ministers has granted approval for the proposal, which was submitted by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, to proceed with the implementation of this transformative project.
