Former Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment, Manusha Nanayakkara, has been summoned by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to provide a statement. However, he has not yet recorded one, the CID informed Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali earlier today (20).
The CID’s Trafficking and Smuggling Unit launched an investigation following a complaint related to a visa issue. According to Chief Inspector S.K. Senaratne, the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the unit, Nanayakkara was summoned to clarify the status of several documents pertinent to the investigation.
The OIC further noted that while a detailed report on the ongoing investigations has been submitted to the court, Nanayakkara has not been identified as a suspect in the matter at this stage.
These details were disclosed during a court hearing regarding Nanayakkara’s application for anticipatory bail, which was submitted in the event of a potential arrest.
