Authorities have launched a search operation to apprehend the brother of Saman Kumara, alias Wele Suda, after he injured a police constable with a sharp weapon and fled the scene in the Badowita area, a senior police officer confirmed.

Two special police teams—one from the Mount Lavinia Police Headquarters and another from the Dehiwala Police—are actively investigating the incident and working to locate the suspect.

The confrontation occurred when officers from the Mount Lavinia Police Headquarters, stationed at the Badowita Police Outpost, conducted a routine check based on intelligence that a suspect was arriving with illegal drugs. Upon verification, police discovered that the individual in question was the brother of Wele Suda, who is currently serving a prison sentence.

During the attempted arrest, the suspect attacked a constable with a sharp weapon, inflicting injuries to his abdomen and hand before managing to escape. The injured officer was immediately rushed to Kalubowila Hospital for treatment.

Following the attack, law enforcement intensified efforts to capture the suspect, including a raid in the third phase of Badowita on the 15th. However, the suspect managed to evade arrest and remains at large.

Police investigations are ongoing.
