The Attorney General has issued a special notice today (16) regarding the arrest order issued against suspended Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon and six other suspects in connection with a shooting incident in the Weligama area.

In an official statement, the Police Media Division announced that, following an agreement reached at the Court of Appeal, the Attorney General has directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) not to proceed with the arrest of the six suspects, including the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Colombo Crimes Division, until the completion of preliminary investigations.

Furthermore, the Attorney General has instructed that statements from the suspects be recorded once they present themselves before the CID, according to the statement issued by the Police Media Division.

The Matara Magistrate’s Court had recently issued an order for the arrest of these six individuals, including IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon.
