A tragic incident occurred yesterday afternoon (15) in the Ruwanwella area, within the Matara Police Division, where a man traveling in a three-wheeler was shot by an unidentified gunman who subsequently fled the scene.
According to information received by the Matara Police Station, the victim, who sustained gunshot wounds, was pronounced dead at the scene. The deceased has been identified as a 53-year-old resident of the Matara Fort area.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the gunman, believed to have been traveling in a car, used a pistol-type firearm to carry out the attack while the victim was in the three-wheeler.
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and authorities are continuing their investigations to apprehend those responsible. The body remains at the scene as the Matara Police press ahead with their inquiries.
