A luxury Land Cruiser valued at approximately Rs. 35 million was seized by the Matara Divisional Criminal Investigation Unit yesterday (12) while hidden in a residence in the Witharandeniya area within the Tangalle Police Division.
The raid followed police intelligence indicating that the vehicle had been illegally assembled and registered.
The current owner, a businessman from the Pallegama area in Embilipitiya, has surrendered to Matara Police through his lawyer. He was subsequently arrested and is expected to appear before the Matara Magistrate’s Court.
Authorities are currently obtaining an expert report on the vehicle, and preliminary police investigations have revealed that it was sold to the businessman by the brother of a politician from the Kalutara area.
