The Constituent Assembly, which met this afternoon, has rejected for the second time the President’s proposal to extend Attorney General Sanjay Rajaratnam’s tenure by another six months.
Although the Speaker had initially convened the Legislative Council for 4 pm today, the meeting was postponed until 6 pm due to an emergency cabinet meeting called by the President.
During the nearly two-hour Legislative Council meeting starting at 6 pm, the decision to deny the Attorney General a six-month extension was confirmed.
As today marks the last day of Attorney General Sanjay Rajaratnam’s service, a farewell ceremony was held at the Attorney General’s Department at 2 pm.
