The inaugural budget of the Kolonna Pradeshiya Sabha, where the National People’s Power (NPP) holds authority, was defeated during its first reading.

The monthly meeting of the Kolonna Pradeshiya Sabha convened today (06) at approximately 10:00 AM under the chairmanship of Mr. Sampath Gunasinghe.

Although the opposition secured majority representation in the Kolonna Pradeshiya Sabha — winning 9 seats, with all opposition groups collectively holding 10 seats the National People’s Power gained control of the council following a secret ballot held to elect the Chairman.

The NPP secured victory in that internal vote and assumed administrative control of the Sabha.

However, during the vote on the first reading of the inaugural budget, opposition groups successfully moved to defeat it.

The Kolonna Pradeshiya Sabha is comprised of 9 members from the National People’s Power, 5 members from the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), 3 members from the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), 1 member from the United National Party (UNP), and 1 member from the Sarvajana Balaya Party.
