Mr. Kabir Hashim, a former Member of Parliament from Kegalle, will be delivering a speech at the Eighth National Evaluation Capacity (NEC) Conference, which commenced in Beijing, China.

Mr. Hashim, who currently serves as the Chairman of the Global Parliamentarians Forum for Evaluation and is a former representative of the Kegalle District, has been invited to participate as an honorary member of the prestigious NEC Conference 2024. The event, taking place from October 14th to 18th in Yanqing District, Beijing, will bring together influential leaders and experts from across the globe.

Organized by the United Nations Development Programme’s Independent Evaluation Office in collaboration with the China International Development Cooperation Agency and the Global Evaluation Forum, the NEC summit serves as a global platform for evaluating national systems. This year’s theme focuses on the essential role national evaluation frameworks play in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and other key global objectives.

Mr. Hashim’s involvement in the conference highlights his growing prominence on the international stage, particularly in the areas of evaluation and governance. His leadership in the Global Parliamentarians Forum for Evaluation has consistently emphasized the importance of accountability, transparency, and the development of robust evaluation systems to foster sustainable development and social equity.

Speaking about the upcoming conference, Mr. Hashim expressed his gratitude for the invitation, noting the critical importance of responsive evaluation in today’s fast-changing world. He emphasized that effective and inclusive government policies must be informed by evaluations that take into account both current and future challenges.

Mr. Hashim also highlighted his eagerness to learn from the global experiences shared at the conference and his commitment to applying those insights to further enhance governance practices.

The NEC 2024 is expected to attract a wide range of participants, including senior government officials, evaluation experts, ministries, national statistics institutes, and supreme audit institutions from around the world. In addition, representatives from civil society, academia, the private sector, and various United Nations agencies and international development partners will also attend the event.

This conference offers a vital opportunity for government and non-government actors to engage in dialogue on strengthening national evaluation systems, with the ultimate aim of promoting evidence-based decision-making that benefits all citizens.

Mr. Hashim’s participation reinforces his dedication to advancing evaluation frameworks, both in Sri Lanka and internationally.
