The Judicial Service Commission has commenced disciplinary proceedings against 30 magistrates and district judges in response to complaints received, according to a report by a leading weekly English newspaper.

Over the past ten days, the Commission has suspended six judges facing various allegations. Among those suspended are Moratuwa Magistrate Thilina Gamage, Mahiyanganaya Additional District Judge Rangani Gamage, a former Batticaloa Magistrate, and three newly appointed judges who are still within their probationary period.

The Judicial Service Commission continues to emphasize the importance of maintaining the professional dignity of judges, including the standards related to their official residences. In line with this, the Commission is preparing to issue a series of special instructions.

Reliable sources within the Commission have also confirmed that a comprehensive set of reforms is planned for the judicial service. These reforms aim to enhance the efficiency and transparency of the judicial system in Sri Lanka.
