Jaffna Police Seek Court Injunction to Prevent Protests Ahead of President’s Visit
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Jaffna Police have filed a petition with the Jaffna Court yesterday (30), seeking an injunction to prohibit protests organized in response to a demonstration led by Parliamentarian Ramanathan Archuna and his group in Jaffna today (31).

According to the petition, the police have received intelligence that Independent MP Archuna, along with several organizations, has planned a series of protests and demonstrations coinciding with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s visit to Jaffna tomorrow.

The police have urged the court to issue an order preventing these protests, citing concerns that such activities in the Keisiyam area of Jaffna could significantly disrupt public order and hinder the enforcement of law and order.

Following the petition, the Jaffna Magistrate has summoned several individuals named in the request to appear before the court today (30) for further inquiry and a final decision on the matter.

Additionally, the court has issued a notice to MP Archuna in connection with the case.
