ITAK’s Sumanthiran Welcomes Kumara Jayakody’s Resignation, Slams Government Support
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Ilankai Tamil Arasu Katchi (ITAK) General Secretary M.A. Sumanthiran has welcomed the resignation of Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody.

However, he strongly criticized the government and National People’s Power (NPP) MPs for previously defending the former minister and voting to keep him in office.

In a statement posted on his X account, former MP M.A. Sumanthiran said it was unacceptable for the government and NPP MPs to continue protecting him, especially after the administration itself acknowledged that the imported coal was of substandard quality.

Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody resigned from his ministerial position yesterday (17) in support of the investigations being carried out by the newly appointed Special Presidential Commission into the purchase of substandard coal.
