ITAK Opposes Government’s Praja Shakthi Programme, Cites Constitutional Concerns
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Ilangai Tamil Arasu Katchi (ITAK) has expressed strong opposition to the government’s Praja Shakthi programme.

Party Media Spokesperson and former Member of Parliament M. A. Sumanthiran stated that the initiative operates as a party-based system rather than a state mechanism.

He pointed out that the programme is being implemented parallel to the existing state machinery, describing it as an incorrect and dangerous precedent.

The former MP further noted that development activities, which should be carried out by local government representatives elected by the people, are instead being implemented through the Praja Shakthi programme, thereby obstructing the functioning of those local institutions.

He also emphasized that the programme is unconstitutional and warned that legal action will be taken against it in the future.
