In a press conference held today (16), Dr. Haritha Aluthge, Secretary of the Government Medical Officers Association, said that the government should take steps to provide solutions to the problems of doctors before imposing restrictions. Sri Lanka Latest News

“Doctors are restricting themselves with a specific program of retention in the country. We heard yesterday. The Minister of Health that there is a limited number of specialist doctors, including anesthetists, will not be approved for leave to go abroad because the Secretary of Health issued a circular or an order. Last year around 274 doctors and specialists have gone to the country. Not even half of this has gone. They have tried to take leave. But because the leave was not approved, they gave up their idea about Sri Lanka and left their jobs. In the end, due to unilateral decisions, the doctors who are currently staying in the country will be tempted to leave the country.”
