The High Commission of India in Colombo has announced that the first meeting of the high-level committee tasked with expediting projects under India’s USD 450 million post-disaster reconstruction package has been convened.

The session was co-chaired by Santosh Jha, High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, and Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando, Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Finance & Planning. The meeting marks the formal launch of collaborative efforts to roll out reconstruction initiatives pledged by India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar during his visit last week.

According to the High Commission, the committee will oversee the rapid implementation of priority programs aimed at rebuilding infrastructure and supporting livelihoods affected by recent disasters. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring timely delivery and maximizing the impact of the assistance.

The Ministry of External Affairs of India reiterated that the reconstruction support reflects New Delhi’s continued partnership with Colombo, particularly in moments of humanitarian and economic stress.
