The maximum fee to be charged by a registered photographer for taking digital photocopies of a person applying for an identity card or duplicate identity card has been increased to Rs.400. (Sri Lanka Latest News)

Accordingly, the Ministry of Public Security issued a special gazette announcement stating that the price mentioned in the gazette issued in 2016 will be cancelled.

Previously, the maximum fee to be charged was 150 rupees.

In obtaining an identity card or a duplicate copy of an identity card, applicants must send photographs taken by a registered photographer to the Department of Registration of Persons through the online system.

Meanwhile, steps have also been taken to issue the digital identity card from next January.

Under that, the government has planned to issue a digital identity card to the applicants for new identity cards and then to gradually issue a digital identity card to the entire community.

Meanwhile, Minister of State for Technology Mr. Kanaka Herath mentioned that the lack of technology in the country is one of the reasons for the economic crisis in the country.
